Information

The Broadblue 385 was designed and developed for extended cruising with a short-handed crew. The aft stepped mast, large overlapping genoa and smaller mainsail ensure that the sail plan is easily matched to the prevailing weather conditions, all from the safety of the cockpit. Many examples of this model have crossed the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Below the waterline the hulls are solid glass for resistance to water ingress. It has skeg hung rudders for robustness and to allow her to easily take the ground. The keels are integrally moulded with the hull and eliminate the risk of them falling off as found on some similar size catamarans. The keels are then sealed from the bilges to eliminate the risk of flooding should they be damaged. Above the water line the hulls and deck are cored construction for stiffness with light weight. The windows are all toughened and laminated glass set in powder coated aluminium frames. The Broadblue 385 is hand-built with more attention to detail than many other comparable 12m catamarans and each one is tailored to the needs of the buyer. The solid foredeck offers a stiffer construction than most trampoline catamarans and increases the available storage space with large foredeck lockers providing space for water toys and other items for fun afloat. Whilst not designed as a performance catamaran, from time to time the owner will be surprised how fast she makes a passage with daily averages of 8 knots or more regularly experienced.
